Could you balance a witch's hat on your head in an emergency?

Scripture kids could. We have been practising these and other potentially life-saving drills such as: balancing books on our heads; taking off one shoe and hopping across the room; taking on the names of fruits so that when, or if, the time comes we will be ready.

This week we also learnt about another aspect of God's mighty love (not for wuss's): loving our parents. God wants us to love and respect our parents and to do what they say; he promises that things will go well for us if we do. We talked about how sometimes this was difficult to do it but if we wanted to be like God who showed us his mighty love, we could rise to this mighty challenge. Emma stuck the tattoo of a love heart with 'Mother and father' on the mighty love tattooed man and we decorated picture frames with pictures of us and our families in them.

This week's Bible verse was from Ephesians 6 in the new testament:

¹Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. ²"Honor your father and mother"—which is the first commandment with a promise— ³"that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth." NIV

Scripture program for term one

It's been great to finally kick off the 2009 year for Scripture. We've had a few little hiccups with values forums and cross-countries and fire evacuations... But we're glad to be back and looking forward to some great teaching and fun and games with our favourite primary school this year. It's been awesome to have our old friends back and to see some new faces as well.

Our first term of teaching is all about God's love. He showed his love for us by sending his son to die and, because of this, we should live out his love for the other people in our lives. We've called it mighty love because we think this love is tough and not for the faint-hearted. No kittens or flowers or mushy gushy girly movies here, just guts and hard work and God's strength.

Because this love is tough love; each week we're going to stick a new tattoo on a picture of a strong-man that represents the lesson we will learn about God's love.
